An eco-responsible Alter-Native
According to a Capgemini Research Institute report entitled “What matters to today's consumer: 2024 consumer behavior tracker for the consumer product and retail industries”, 60% of consumers worldwide say they have bought products from organizations they consider sustainable. 63% of consumers want brands to play an active role in educating them about responsible products.
The Alter-Native capsule collection was born in total harmony with this customer sensibility, with a clear ambition: to reduce the environmental impact of footwear right from the design stage.
Alter-Native eco-designed shoes
In collaboration with MAOBI and with the support of ADEME (the French Agency for Ecological Transition), several shoe models (in different typologies) were analyzed at each stage of their life cycle. From their manufacturing process, raw materials and packaging to their distribution and end-of-life: everything was studied to identify the environmental impact of each stage and propose solutions to reduce it.
1- Leather from tanneries certified to Leather Working Group (LWG) auditing standards: These standards aim to promote best practice, reduce the environmental impact of the leather industry and ensure transparency and accountability throughout the supply chain.
2- Sole design: Soles must be made from at least 25% recycled materials or natural rubber. For cork-based soles, a minimum of 10% is required.
3- Assembly: assembly is carried out with water-based glue or with yarn made from better-quality materials, and plastic tips are eliminated. Laces are made from better materials such as recycled polyester or organically grown cotton. Metal parts are eliminated where possible, or replaced by recycled materials, e.g. metal eyelets are removed, or raw metal zips are replaced by recycled metal or plastic zips.
4- Shoe boxes: made from recycled cardboard.
