Keeping them as beautiful as the day they were worn, optimizing their durability or ensuring optimum comfort: there are many reasons why we want to look after our leather shoes.
But sometimes we're not sure what to do or what products to use to pamper our shoes.
Don't worry, today on the blog, we're telling you all about the care routine to adopt to show them our love.
How to prepare for leather shoe care ?
The first, and arguably essential, step in caring for leather shoes is to prepare and dust them.
We start by removing the laces, so as to have easy access to the entire surface to be treated.
You can also use a shoe tree to maintain their shape, reduce wrinkles and absorb moisture.
Then, for effective dusting, use a soft brush or a clean, dry cloth (in the case of really dirty shoes, the cloth can be slightly dampened).
Leather shoe care: cleaning
It's important to choose care products adapted to the material of the shoes to be treated.
For example, to clean smooth leather, we recommend a specific cleansing milk that will provide in-depth action without damaging this beautiful material.
Depending on the pair, you may opt for a special suede shampoo, a rubber for nubuck or a multi-material shampoo.
For the inside of the shoes, remove the removable insoles and clean with a microfiber cloth.
Shoe polish for smooth leather shoes
A pair of smooth leather shoes should be polished with a colorless product or one matching the shade of the shoe.
When it comes to texture, you can choose between :
- Hard shoe polish: a texture adapted to classic leathers, which will add shine and protection.
- Creamy shoe polish: a particularly nourishing consistency for dry and/or damaged leathers.
- Liquid polish: perfect for quick maintenance, this texture is easy to apply and dries quickly.
To obtain a beautiful shine, simply apply a small amount of polish with a soft cloth and rub in circular movements.
Leave to dry for 10 minutes before repeating the operation.
