Commitment to zero deforestation

Our commitment to deforestation- and conversion-free leather

We have made an essential choice for the future, and one that promises essential change: to preserve forests and ecosystems.

By joining The Deforestation-Free Call to Action for Leather, we are affirming our commitment to a sustainable transformation of the leather industry.

What is the call to action for deforestation-free leather?

The Call to Action for Deforestation-Free Leather is a collaborative initiative between Textile Exchange, Leather Working Group and the World Wildlife Fund, which asks brands and retailers to commit to sourcing bovine leather from deforestation-free, conversion-free supply chains by 2030.

Since 2021, we have been working with our suppliers to ensure that the leather used in our own-brand shoes comes from tanneries certified to the LWG audit standard.

This first step marks the beginning of a long process: traceability. But our efforts must not stop there! We need to take our approach to its logical conclusion: traceability all the way back to the farms where the animals are reared. Only complete traceability will eliminate any risk of deforestation or conversion.

Targets up to 2030

This commitment is an ambitious first step towards a more transparent and responsible leather supply chain.

And, to make this a reality, we have set ourselves a clear target, which is the call to action: by 2030, to ensure that all the leather we use for our own brands comes from sources without deforestation or land conversion. This challenge is equal to the challenges of climate change and our desire to evolve. It's a progressive and committed approach.

To meet this commitment, we have already started to build the foundations, solid bases for a progressive commitment:

  • Listing our supply networks so that we have a better idea of where the leather comes from.
  • Working hand in hand with our suppliers and partners to establish practices in line with our objective of zero deforestation and conversion.

Of course, we know that this path involves many challenges, but its importance is undeniable. The consequences of deforestation caused by livestock farming are disastrous for forests; they also threaten local communities and contribute to the acceleration of global warming.

By taking action now, we are helping to mitigate these impacts and build a leather industry that is more respectful of ecosystems and rooted in sustainable development.
